Have you ever wondered if God wanted to heal you? I mean let’s be honest, do you feel maybe God has decided to just let you live with what you have? The GOOD NEWS is that it is ALWAYS God’s will to heal.
No matter what our experience has shown, or our favorite relative has said, the Bible shows us that it is always God’s will to heal. Let’s look at these examples, which I call ‘faith focuses for healing’ and let the word do it’s job to produce in us strong faith to be healed!
Faith Focuses for Healing from Old Testament
God is the same God yesterday, today and forever. Both the New and Old Testament provide ample examples of His heart and mind on healing. Here is a good variety of faith focuses we can study and meditate on to build strong faith that it is always God’s will to heal.
God’s Original Design for Mankind is Healing and Health
Have you ever spent time meditating about how life was like before the Fall? God designed us gloriously and His design provides a good foundation of faith to believe God’s will is always to heal.
God designed mankind to live in a garden of Eden where there was no sickness or disease. Adam and Eve were able to wake up every morning filled with strength and verve. This first family worked in the garden, designing, managing and building. They could enjoy an active life style, a healthy marriage relationship and had plenty of strength for child bearing and rearing. When we seek God’s heart to find out if HE wants us healed, looking back at His original design is a big help. It shows us that from the beginning, God has always wanted us to live healed. He designed us to live healed and whole.
The Covenant and Blessing of Abraham Provided Healing and Health
You might have heard teaching like I have that God uses sickness to train His people. But that is not what the Word says. It is always God’s will to heal. In fact, God gave His people His Word that if they followed it, they would stay healed.
Deuteronomy 28 is a record of the covenant of healing that God gave His covenant people. Just because man fell, does not mean that God changed HIs mind about healing or stopped Him from being able to keep us healed. Quite the contrary!
God provided His people with a covenant. If they listened to His voice and followed His ways, they would be blessed and healed.
28 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle…
7 The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.
If the people stepped outside of the covenant, they would remove themselves from the blessing and sickness and disease would be able to come upon them. (Deut. 28:22) But God always allowed them to repent, offer sacrifice and step right back under the blessing.
The Balm of Gilead Provided Healing
God’s will is always to heal. He provides healing in a variety of ways!
Mentioned in Genesis 47, Jeremiah 8 and Jeremiah 46, the balm of Gilead was a herbal balm. God created the herbal ingredients of the balm then showed man how to make and use the balm. This balm was known for producing healing. The Lord provided it for His people because He always wants His people healed. We can believe God’s heart on healing and His ability to provide whatever is necessary to bring that healing about, from balm, to the supernatural, like He provided in this next example.
God’s Deliverance from Egypt included Healing
Egypt represented the enemy’s agenda for God’s people: slavery, bondage, hard toil, poverty, poor living conditions, lack of freedom. God’s deliverance for His people represents and showcases His heart for His people.
He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. Psalm 105;37
We do not have record of Moses praying for God’s people to be healed. We have an account that says either God supernaturally kept His people healed while working in enslaved conditions in Egypt, or He sovereignly healed them on the way out of town. Either way. God is consistent from beginning of the Bible to the end, that His choice for us and how He leads us is always toward healing.
The Bronze Snake
In Numbers 21, the Israelites’ sin by speaking against God. This results in a plague of poisonous snakes in the camp. The people repent of their sin, and ask Moses to intercede on their behalf.
‘The Lord said to Moses, ‘Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.’ So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived.’ (Numbers 21:8,9)
God provides forgiveness and healing for bodies no matter what the situation is that brought on the sickness. Sickness is not always a sin issue on our part, but when it is, like in this example, God’s choice is still always that we repent so that He can heal us. God’s will is always to heal.
Office of Prophet produced Healing and Miracles of Healing
Long before Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the Church was empowered in the Upper Room with gifts of healing and the working of miracles, God provided the same healing gifts and working of miracles through the office of the Prophet.
Elijah and Elisha both demonstrated God’s ability to raise the dead, which is the ultimate demonstration of His healing power. In addition, Elijah was given a Word of Knowledge that healed Naaman of Leprosy. They healed the widow woman of starvation. They taught God’s word so that His people could stay blessed and in health.
The Psalms and Proverbs showcase God’s Will to Heal
Bless the Lord, all my soul, I will not forget His benefits — 3 He forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 1-3:2,3,5
Note how God always responds to His people’s cry to be healed. And note what He send to heal them! It is the SAME thing He sends us, His Word.
19Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. 20 He sent His Word to them and healed them.
My son, pay attention to what I say, turn your ear to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight keep them within your heart;22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Proverbs 4:20-22.
The Stripes of Jesus were taken for our Healing
God’s will is always to heal.
I love how passionate God is about healing, that He couldn’t contain His joy about what His Son was coming to accomplish. God wanted to to share His heart with His people! He wanted them to know He was dedicated to healing and it was on it’s way! God allowed Isaiah to see in vision what Jesus would do, 700 years before He came. He didn’t want His people to go long periods of time without having enough Word to hang onto to keep them in faith for healing. So even before He did the work to heal us, He started talking about it in order to start producing faith.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
Faith Focuses from the New Testament
God’s was able to reverse the curse of the Fall and provide healing and health
When mankind fell, sin entered into the world, putting iniquity in humankind and opening the door for sickness and disease. But that does not change God’s mind or heart about you and I being healed and living in divine health!
Galatians 3:13-14 says that Jesus came to REVERSE the impact of the Fall. Jesus became a curse for us. Jesus broke the curse of sickness and disease over us by the stripes and death on the cross. Not only were we designed to live in divine health and strength, but even after the fall, Jesus Personally made a way for all of mankind to be healed.
The Life of Jesus produced Healing
When Jesus walked the earth, He said ‘I can do nothing by myself. I can only do what I see my Father doing.’ John 5:19
Jesus had no sin in Him. The only influence He was under was His Father’s in heaven. Jesus is the exact representation of God the Father. Hebrews 1:3. Jesus’ life and death on our behalf are our clearest examples that it is always God’s will to heal. it is the reason God sent Jesus. To heal of us sin and sickness and poverty and lack and anything else that trespasses against God’s covenant of salvation.
Jesus opened the eyes of the blind, the ears of the deaf, made the lame walk, preached the gospel to the poor and raised the dead. uke 4:18 God also records Him healing everything else in between those thing from bleeding issues and epilepsy, to leprosy, paralysis, fever and madness.
Jesus walked around town, doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the adversary. Acts 10:38.
There was not one sickness, disease, infirmity or injury that Jesus did not heal.
The Leper’s Question couldn’t stop God’s Healing
In Luke 5:12 Jesus encounters a leper who has seen the miracle working power of Jesus. He knows that Jesus has the ability to heal leprosy. Maybe this is how you are coming to Jesus today.
You have read of HIs miracles and know people Jesus has healed. But maybe you still have a question in your hear like the leper did.
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[b] When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
When we say ‘Jesus I know you can heal what I have, but do you WANT to heal ME? Jesus says YES I DO! The answer He gave the leper is a living Word available to the whosoever. What God does for one person, He will do for another. Acts 10:34.
The Syrophoenician woman’s faith produced Healing
Even if you feel disqualified to receive healing, it is still God’s will to heal you. Regardless if your behavior like smoking or promiscuity caused an illness, God forgives and God always chooses to heal. That is what I like about the example of Jesus healing the Syrophoenician’s daughter.
When the Syrophoenician woman approached Jesus to heal her daughter, Jesus said her daughter didn’t qualify to be healed because healing at the time only belonged to the Jews. He said it wouldn’t be right to cast the children’s bread, healing out to the dogs, ‘ which the Jews considered the Syrophoenicians. OUCH!
But this mother didn’t miss a beat!
27 And she said, “Yes, Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”
This woman believed God would still allow or chose to heal her daughter.
She agreed to her position as ‘not technically qualified to receive (a dog) BUT put herself as a dog under the table of God’s children’s sitting at a table eating His bread of healing. She had kids herself and knew what happened when kids eat. They are messy. Food falls to the ground. So she reasoned that even in her lowered state, a crumb that fell would be more than enough. She believed even a crumb of God’s power was enough to heal her daughter.
Jesus was pleased! “Great faith”! He said. Her daughter was healed because when someone dared to believe! God wants you and I to believe as well that ‘even if’ there is a reason that WE think disqualifies us, His will is still ALWAYS to heal.
Jesus healed the Man at the Pool of Siloam
I don’t want to leave out the faith focus of the man who had no faith. The man by the pool of Siloam. You and I are called to live by faith. But if God want to heal even people with no faith, then He certainly wants to heal anyone carrying faith.
When Jesus approaches this crippled man, He asks if he wants to be healed.
7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”
8 Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.
One reason this miracle is recorded is to give us an open door to believe for the whosoever to be healed. Even those without active faith. God wants us thoroughly convinced that even if people don’t do their part of carrying faith for healing, it is STILL always His will to heal,
Revelation shows the Healing Heart of God
From Genesis to Revelation, God’s Word is a record that His will is always to heal and that we live free of sickness and disease.
Our final faith focus for healing comes from the ‘end of the Book.’
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” REVELATION 21:4
Both heaven and how God designed us to live on earth, and all of His interactions with mankind in between illustrate His heart regarding healing. God chooses heaven to carry no sorrow or pain or death, because His will and choice is that mankind live without these things.
- God designed us to live free of disease.
- God always wants us healed.
- God never says no to healing.
We hope the Word has encouraged and strengthened your faith today to believe God wants you healed.
In our next article we will look at why WE have to ‘do something’ in order to receive His healing, and flush out what those things are that help us to receive.
